Email update: 22 March 2009

Dear Family and Friends,

We're sorry we haven't sent an update to you for so long!

Things have been so busy, and it just seems like we never have enough time.

Jan. 29 - Feb. 8 - We both unpacked and settled into Ukarumpa. Dave worked hard to draft a rough draft of an anthropology paper to present at the forthcoming anthropology conference.
Feb. 9 - 19 - Dave was away at an anthropology conference where he presented a rough draft of the paper he would like to write for a session on how vernacular education can be used by different groups for different ends.
Feb. 19 - 28 - We were both doing full time translation back into English of Gen. 12-21, for a consultant to use for our checking sessions.
Feb. 28 - Mar. 12 - We were checking Genesis 12-21 with a consultant and two Sam men. We were able to get all those chapters checked in the daytime and make all the changes in the evenings, and the two men carried a revised, finalized copy of Genesis 12-22 down to their villages! We have already had some good feedback from those passages! Praise the Lord!
Mar. 12 - 18 - Dave attended SIL's language and culture conference at Ukarumpa. He had to prepare for two presentations, one about the politics behind starting Sam language prep school in our village, and another about cargo cults (he was a co-presenter for that one).
Mar. 18 - 25 - In this current week, Sarah is working full-time with four Sam vernacular teachers, training them to teach using the literacy materials and developing more teaching resources in Sam.
Mar. 25 - Apr. 8 - We will both be attending SIL's Branch Conference, where we will look at what has been going on for the last two years and chart strategy for the next two years.

Please pray for us, because we both feel like rubber bands that are stretched very tight. How tight can we go? We pray that God will help us to get done what needs to get done, and be able to let go of things that aren't in His plan.

Blessings,
Dave and Sarah
