Troolin email update, August 2012
Dear Friends and Family,
We came out to the village two weeks ago, and it's been very good to be
back and see the people here!
We have been busy getting our basic living situation sorted out, like
installing a new solar system regulator, batteries, solar panel, and new
stair step and stair post, getting the generator in good shape, setting
up our village email antenna and getting that working (we are loving
having email!), and most importantly, fixing up the swing for the kids!
:) Killing three huge spiders in and near our house were also important
tasks! We have collected stories for language learning, visited both of
the other Sam villages, walked down to both of the nearby rivers,
visited a New Testament dedication in another language group, and
participated in a group time of feasting and renewed commitment to avoid
sorcery and follow God. It's been a busy time but we look forward to
getting some translation work done now! Please pray that the Sam
translators will be committed to and enjoy working with us on
translation while we are here in Buan.
The most exciting event happened last week. We loaded up the truck with
our family and four Sam translators and another village brother and
started off through the four deep rivers and dirt roads to a New
Testament dedication in the Marik language group! It was a great time of
celebration, as the Marik people marked this important milestone with
speeches by the leaders from the church, community, translators, the SIL
advisor and an SIL Director. Praise God that the Marik people now have
His Word in their language!
Thank you for all of your prayers for the Sam people and for us!
